Best Time to Post on Instagram

If you want to expand your Instagram following, you will need to create engaging content that your audience wants to see. However, if your content isn’t published at the right time, most of your audience may never see it. So, how should you choose the best time for your target audience to view your content? Testing the timing of your posts to determine which post time generates most of your audience engagement is the most efficient way to find the optimal posting time.

What if you don’t have the time or money to run your own experiments? Luckily, Sprout Social, a social media management platform with over 20,000 users, has done the work for you. They examined their consumer data in 2020 to find the time of day their social media posts got the most engagement. Sprout Social also separated the data into groups by type of social network and industry. According to their aggregate consumer data for Instagram, the best time to post on Instagram is between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Central Daylight Time – however, this will depend on what day of the week you post your content. Wednesday throughout the day, specifically around 11 a.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. were found to be the most ideal times to post on Instagram.

While 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is considered the best time of day to be posting on Instagram, the day of the week on which you post will influence the amount of interaction received between those hours. To illustrate why the day of the week matters so much, here are some insights regarding the optimal post timing collected from Sprout Social’s data:

  • Because many people check their phones as they wake up in the morning, posting at 7 a.m. CDT from Wednesday to Friday is ideal to produce the highest interaction among consumers.
  • While at work, many people wait to check their phones during their lunch break or at the end of their workday. Take advantage of this and post between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. CDT on weekdays to encourage lots of engagement.
  • Want to post on weekends? Do so at around 10 a.m. CDT on Saturdays since most people utilize the weekend to leave the house and get together with friends.
